Commercial Driver's License Training
The Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program is offered through Workforce Solutions at SKCTC. The CDL program is designed for individuals with little or no commercial driving experience in preparation for an entry-level position in the trucking industry. As part of the program, participants will receive:
- A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
- CDL learner's permit and endorsement preparation
- DOT rules and regulations
- Log books
- Training in map reading, trip planning and vehicle operation
- Class A road test
Program Schedule
The full-time program is four weeks, four days a week. Classes start every Monday
and are available on weekends and evenings.
Program Requirements
Individuals must be able to read and write the English language, be at least 18 years
of age, be able to meet the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements,
and pass a DOT drug test. Must have a valid Kentucky Driver's License.
Employment Opportunities
The truck driving industry is currently experiencing a shortage of drivers.
Following Completion of training, entry level-truck drivers can earn an average of
$36,000 $40,000 the first year.
