Honors Program Required Coursework

Required work:
15 total honors credit hours (5 classes)
2 classes have to be seminars and other 3 can be combination of seminars and contract classes
A capstone project of your choosing
Our seminars:
HUM 204 Honors Appalachian Seminar
HRN 101: Introduction to Contemporary thought
HON 202: The Contemporary World
HUM 207: Honors American Seminar
- The seminars are offered one a semester and are over ITV so all campuses are included. They are interdisciplinary, meaning we explore the topic through as many ways as possible, not just lecture or reading from a textbook. Also, we go on campus tours of nearby colleges and universities and get together for events, presentations and workshops.
Any student not in the Honors Program who completes 2 seminars successfully is awarded an Honors Certificate
What are Contract Classes?
Up to 3 of the classes you are already taking can be made into Contract Honors Classes. We draw up a contract with the instructor to make it an honors-level experience for you-- for example, designing a lab experiment for your physics class or making a gun safety video to accompany a paper for English class. It s up to the student and the instructor to decide how to create an honors experience.
