Understanding Your Syllabus
On the first day of class, you’ll receive a course syllabus—an overview of what to expect during the semester, including assignments and the instructor’s expectations. Read your syllabus carefully and keep track of it! You’re responsible for knowing the class requirements.
In general, a syllabus will include the following information:
- The course description
- Assignments (including reading assignments, tests and project due dates)
- Grading policies
- How to reach your instructor
- Your instructor’s office hours
- Classroom expectations, including attendance and participation requirements
