Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Program

NLN-PAX (Preadmission Exam)

The NLN Pre-Admission (PAX) Exam is required for acceptance into the first level of the associate degree nursing program or the PN evening/weekend. Please note that the deadline to apply for the Middlesboro spring 2020 A.D.N. program is November 15, 2019, and for the fall admissions on both campuses including the PN program is March 1, 2020.

There are only 35 slots available at each campus site on each date so register early to get your preferred date.   

To register for the exam go to https://ondemand.questionmark.com/400030/ext/nlntesting/  and follow the registration directions, to select the NLN PAX RN admission exam, then chose SKCTC either Pineville or Cumberland location and date.    

The exam times will be on the NLN testing site along with the room locations.    

  • Check- in will begin at 9:00 a.m.
  • You must be present and checked by 9:30 a.m.
  • You will not be permitted into the computer lab after 9:30 a.m. NO Exceptions!!
  • Bring your login information with you so you can log in to take the exam.
  • The test is in three parts, you may take a brief break but you may not leave the building
  • No cell phones allowed in the testing site.
  • Please arrive early for closer parking in the student section of the parking lot.
  • The NLN test/scores are good for three years from date of admission.
  • If you test at another approved site, you must notify the nursing program coordinator and send your test scores in your admissions packet.
  • If the College is closed due to weather or other circumstance, you will be notified of the rescheduled testing date and location via email. Check the college webpage for closing instructions and your email.  
  • You are only allowed to take the PAX exam one time in a 12 month period.

Overview of the NLN Pre-Admission RN Exam (PAX)

  • The NLN PAX-RN comprises three main areas; verbal skills, including word knowledge and reading comprehension, mathematics, including basic calculations, word problems, and incorporating algebra, geometry, conversions, graphs, and applied mathematics, and science, examining chemistry, physics, biology, human anatomy, human physiology and health.
  • You must have an overall score of 50 Percentile or above on this exam for preference. Lower scores may be considered depending on other criteria and available slots.
