Southeast's library subscribes to many online databases listed below. For at-home access, please use your KCTCS username and password.

Gale includes:

Academic OneFile - The premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and references.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context - A comprehensive resource for information on today's most important social issues.

Health Reference Center-Academic - Articles and reference material on health, medicine, and safety.

Health and Wellness Resource Center - Articles and reference material from the consumer's heath perspective.

EBSCO contains a wide variety of popular full-text and bibliographic databases, which include full-text plus abstracts and indexing for thousands of journals and periodicals. A wide range of subjects are covered including business, education, the social sciences and medicine. There are also 35 full-text national and international newspapers, and selective full-text of 375 regional U.S. newspapers. EBSCO also offers Searchasaurus, Kids Search and Student Research Center for younger scholars.

Find diverse global perspectives on topics related to controversial issues, the environment, health, education, science, business, economics, politics, criminal justice and more from a variety of current and retrospective news media including newspapers, newswires, broadcast transcripts, blogs, periodicals, videos and web-only content. Includes local newspapers such as the the Harlan Daily Enterpise and the Middlesboro Daily News as well as regional titles such as the Lexington Herald-Leader and the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

Access the Master Academic Video Collection which contains Oscar, Emmy, and Peabody award winning documentaries from the very best producers, including A&E, PBS, the BBC, National Geographic, ABC News, NBC News, CNBC, HBO Documentary Films, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, Open University, Annenberg Learner, TED, Films for the Humanities & Sciences, and more.

FirstSearch offers seamless electronic access to almost a dozen databases containing articles, papers, proceedings, government publications and more. FirstSearch includes WorldCat, a database that allows you to search for books and other materials in libraries worldwide.

ProQuest includes:

Career & Technical Education - Vocational and technical periodicals covering all aspects of the Vo/Tech curriculum.

Alt-Press Watch - A full-text database comprised of the newspapers, magazines, and journals of the alternative and independent press.

eBooks from Ebsco contains electronic books on a wide variety of academic subjects. Users can preview an e-book online, peruse a page, read each page in depth, jump to specific chapters or pages, or use links in the Table of Contents or Index to go directly to specific chapters of interest. Every word in every ebook is searchable. eBooks can be viewed online and in many cases downloaded to computers or mobile devices.

Kentucky Virtual Library contains links to book catalogs from almost 30 Kentucky libraries (academic, public, & corporate) and links to databases to find magazine articles. There is also access to the Kentuckiana Digital Library, which provides access to shared digital archive collections.

Grolier Online provides access to the Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, American Heritage Dictionaries, and a world atlas.


Britannica Online delivers fast and easy access to high-quality, comprehensive reference information. The combination of Encyclopedia Britannica, plus Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, magazines and periodicals, and many other research tools provides a variety of reliable resources.

Salem Health provides access to two important reference works:

Magill's Medical Guide describes major diseases and disorders of the human body, the basics of human anatomy and physiology, specializations in medical practice, and common surgical and nonsurgical procedures.

Psychology and Mental Health covers not only the history of the field and the core aspects of behaviorism, cognitive psychology, and psychoanalytic psychology, but also diagnoses, disorders, treatments, tests, notable people, and other issues.

The Lab Training Library is a training resource that builds competency in clinical laboratory testing. Study and take exams on units such as urinalysis, phlebotomy, and microbiology.

New users will need to register with an email address and will need to get a new lab code from the Circulation Desk.
