Two of Harlan County s biggest festivals are joining forces for the 2nd time in one location.

The 53nd annual Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ and the 13th annual Kentucky Black Bear Festival will be held on Friday, October 6th and Saturday, October 7th on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The Festivals begin Friday morning, October 6th The annual Swappin Meetin Glow Run 5K will be Friday evening at 7 p.m.  Registration for the Glow Run begins at 6 p.m.

The fun begins on Friday and Saturday with a long list of events including the annual contests in quilt making, baked goods, horseshoes, pickles, jams and jellies, checkers, cake walk, art contest and the Tri-City News Photography Contest. Kids and adults alike will be able to learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and math at the STEAM booths, set up in Newman Hall.

There will also be food booths and live crafting demonstrations and lots of live music both days. The carnival will also be open throughout the festivals.

The live performances will be held in the Black Box Theater in the Godbey Appalachian Center and on the backside of Falkenstine Hall facing the lower parking lot. The annual Gospel Sing, featuring the group Crabbe Family Twins, will be in the theater on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. A performance of the latest production in the Higher Ground series is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, followed by a concert by New Town (Bluegrass). Both Saturday night events will also be in the theater.

Glow Run 5K:

Thursday, October 6thth, the 6th annual Kingdom Come Swappin Meetin Glow 5K Run/1 mile walk will be held. Participants are encouraged to wear items that glow in the dark. Those who take part in the event will receive a T-Shirt and glow items.
