Southeast and Appalachian Challenge Academy sign agreement

A memorandum of agreement between Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College and Appalachian Challenge Academy (ACA), located at Grays Knob in Harlan County, was finalized recently that will allow academy cadets the opportunity to take two courses, carpentry fundamentals and introduction to automotive systems, at the SKCTC Harlan campus. The courses are dual credit which means the cadets will receive both high school and college credits. The Appalachian Challenge Academy trains and mentors youth ages 16 to 18, using a regimental environment during a 22-week residential program.

Taking part in the signing ceremony were, front row, left to right: Lige Buell, SKCTC interim chief academic officer, Dr. Lynn Moore, SKCTC president and Josh Coldiron, ACA director.
Back row: Freddie Maggard, Kentucky National Guard community relations liaison, Major Jake McKinney, Kentucky National Guard educational director, Brittany Blair, ACA deputy director.
