Treasures from the Hills and Hollows

Treasures from the Hills and Hollows began over twenty years ago under the direction of now retired professor, Madeline Gibson as part of the Appalachian Studies class. It has grown to become a campus wide event in which all classes participate to showcase the heritage of our county. This event is offered in conjunction with the annual Mountain Heritage Festival in Whitesburg and is hosted on Whitesburg Day annually. Students, faculty and staff come together to offer demonstrations, old time games, music, face painting, crafts, and more. There was a mini petting zoo and Civil War reenactment this year, which were big hits with the kids. Additionally, the students learned about our allied health programs and made "silly slime" with the science students. Hundreds of county school children attend the event annually.
