Opening convocation for Southeast nursing students held
The opening convocation for students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College was held recently in the theater at Harlan County High School with first-year pupils participating. Students took the ANA Nursing Code of Ethics and the Student Code of Ethics pledges. Kathy H. Guyn, professor and program coordinator, addressed students as did SKCTC President Dr. Lynn Moore. Nursing program alumnus Heather Fulton, R.N., a 2013 graduate, delivered the keynote address. Mrs. Fulton spoke of her love for the profession and of her struggles since enduring injuries in an automobile accident last winter when she suffered a spinal cord injury while returning home from work. The convocation also featured remarks by other faculty and culminated with the presentation of lamps, synonymous with the nursing profession and dating back to the days of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale.(Photos by Chris Jones)
