The Southeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center recently held the yearly Fall
Expo as high school students from across the region took part in the event held at
the Harlan Center. Over 600 students participated as they observed demonstrations
and received key information about various health care opportunities. Shandeal Fields
coordinated the event. AHEC, she noted, is an organization that covers 16 counties
in Eastern Kentucky and provides clinical rotations in rural practice settings while
bringing health career programming to local schools, all the while helping prepare
youth to enter the healthcare labor force. Additionally, SKCTC students taught by
Matthew Druen served as official hosts and guides.
