Black History Month observed at SKCTC Whitesburg

Rev. Ronnie Hampton presented a program Feb.14 at the Whitesburg campus in conjunction with Black History Month. His presentation, made before faculty, staff and students, centered on the contributions made by African Americans in the local coal industry. Hampton, a native of Lynch, discussed the development of that coal camp and the recruitment of blacks from the deep South hired to dig the abundant coal from the site in Harlan County which was once the largest coal-producing town in the world. The event was organized by Carolyn M. Sundy, SKCTC s vice president for diversity and inclusion.
