At Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, we ve always been about helping
our students and community. In January 2015, we kicked off our BUILDSMART campaign.
As a result of action during the 2014 legislative session, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is for the first time ever permitting KCTCS to issue agency bonds to construct the top capital project at each of its sixteen colleges. Known as BUILDSMART, this statewide initiative requires 25% of the total scope of the approved project be raised locally by each college.
SKCTC is fortunate to have been chosen for one of the largest BUILDSMART projects in the state. This $10-million facility will encompass 30,000 square feet over two-stories and will be instrumental in allowing growth on our Middlesboro campus while also enhancing the needs of the community.
The Southeast Educational Alliance Building will have dedicated space for our four-year university partners along with general classroom and office space. The students will have new features in this building, such as an internet caf , computer laboratories and dedicated study space. A key feature of the building is a large, dividable meeting space that will allow for assemblies of both the college and community. The second floor of the building will house a state-of-the art nursing education facility.
Southeast must raise $2.5 million in local support in order for the project to proceed. If the match is raised by January 1, 2016, KCTCS will be authorized to issue $7.5 million in agency bonds to construct the new building with an anticipated completion date of fall 2018.
