
Samuel Todd Brand, Ph.D.
Samuel “Todd” Brand has spent 25 years working in the field of higher education. Originally
from Mendenhall, Mississippi, Dr. Brand currently serves as interim president/CEO
of Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He is responsible
for the overall administration of the college and its four campuses. Previously, he
served five years as chief academic officer at Ashland Community and Technical College
in Ashland, Kentucky, where he helped the college achieve recognition from the Aspen
Institute as one of the Top 150 community colleges in the U.S. Prior to his service
in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Dr. Brand served for almost
two decades in various positions at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Mississippi,
including division chair of Fine Arts and Communication, Arts and Letters series director,
communication faculty, economics faculty, and assistant men’s basketball coach. He
began his career in television and radio broadcasting before entering the field of
education at the K-12 level. Dr. Brand has been the recipient of numerous awards during
his career, including the PTK Distinguished Administrator Award, the Mississippi Humanities
Professor of the Year Award at MCC, and the Mississippi College Department of Communication’s
Alumnus of the Year Award. Additionally, he has completed the Institute for Educational
Leadership’s Education Policy Fellowship Program and the American Association of Community
College’s Future President’s Institute. Dr. Brand holds a doctorate in community college
leadership from Mississippi State University. He is married to his college sweetheart,
Amy, and the Brands have three sons. They attend First Baptist Church in Russell,
Kentucky.
