Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ to feature more than a dozen live craft demonstrations

Published on Sep 17, 2025

This year’s Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ returns to Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College’s Cumberland campus Oct. 3-4, spotlighting the rich traditions of Appalachian culture through music, storytelling, folk art and community engagement.

The two-day festival showcases the region’s creative spirit with performances, workshops, contests and heritage demonstrations, including wood carving, quilting, cider pressing, corn shelling, blacksmithing, apple butter making, clogging and more.

“We’re proud to continue this tradition that brings our community together to celebrate the richness of Appalachian culture,” said Alexia Ault, co-chair of the Swappin’ Meetin’ committee. “This event is a reflection of our past, present and future — and we invite everyone to be part of it.”

From gospel and bluegrass to clogging and youth storytelling, the main stage will feature regional talent. Music highlights include Elvis & the Coupe DeVilles, Ethan Napier, Dalton Moore, Higher Ground, Shyla Blevins, The 99 and Eddie Forester.

Storytelling remains a cornerstone of the festival, with featured performances by award-winning actor and storyteller Mike Breeze of Morehead, Kentucky; Southeast professor Carlton Hughes; and youth competitors in the Pam Halcomb Memorial Storytelling Showcase.

Festivalgoers can participate in creative writing and storytelling workshops and enjoy interactive activities for all ages.

Contests and exhibits will highlight Appalachian artistry and homemade goods, including fiber arts, photography, baked treats and preserves. The Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ Cruise In car show will be held Saturday.

Children’s activities, community booths and local vendors offering handmade crafts and regional cuisine round out the experience. Food options include favorites such as Hillbilly Taters and More, Raven Rock Cafe and Kansas City-style barbecue from the Cumberland Lions Club.
