
Tile mosaic at Lynch completed by Southeast students to be dedicated May 24
A project completed recently by students, faculty and staff involved with the Appalachian
Program at Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College will be dedicated at
noon Thursday, May 24 outside the East Kentucky Social Club at Lynch.
The project, a mosaic sculpture that honors and chronicles the passage of African
Americans, many coming from the deep South, who journeyed to Lynch for employment
in the coal mines. The influx of workers into the area began nearly 90 years ago with
the development of Lynch, at one time one of the largest coal towns in the world.
The public is cordially invited to participate, refreshments will be served following
