The Southeast Scholars program enjoys exciting summer camp experience with over 30 youths attending

The Southeast Scholars Program of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College recently conducted a summer camp session on the Cumberland campus with 30 youth participating.

The program, according to its director Sandra Brown, works to identify students in the sixth grade and provides programming through their senior year of high school. If students complete the program, they are eligible for assistance with tuition and books to attend SKCTC. During the past year, students were offered a total of 17 workshops encompassing various academic and life skills topics while also taking part in three community service projects.

According to Ms. Brown, the emphasis of the 2013 summer camp was planned around the theme of leadership. The session was titled: LEAD Leaders Experiencing Action Development. This summer, students participated in eight workshops structured around leadership topics. The session ended with a field trip to Bowling Green where the students toured Western Kentucky University, the Corvette Museum and nearby Mammoth Cave National Park.

Hall, Charles Hughes, Matthew Dykes, Dalissa Noe, Shyla Baker, Miranda Skidmore, Taylon Baker, Natalie McGeorge, Shayla Collins, Malia Williams, Alicia Mason, Lindsay Fields, Laura Creech, Payton Bingham, Lizzie Lee-Theis, Olivia Jones, Isabella Jones, Emily Smith, Sarah Kelly, Emily Beasor, Tom Robinson, Christopher Brown, Maria Lewis, Robert Rowlett, Amber Rowlett and Selena Rowlett.
