
The annual Miss Southeast Scholarship Pageant will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 on the Cumberland Campus
An evening of style, grace and entertainment will be in store as the annual Miss Southeast
Scholarship Pageant returns to the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Center at Cumberland.
The event, set to be held on the campus of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical
College, will be Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. as contestants representing each of
the schools five campuses will compete for the title. The winner will be awarded a
$1,000 one-semester scholarship to attend SKCTC and will represent the college at
the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival set for Memorial Day weekend at Pine Mountain
State Resort Park.
Contestants must be full-time students with a grade point average of 2.5 or better,
never married with no children, and they are required to compete in the talent portion
of the show. Each will be judged on her on-stage question, talent, and poise and presence
displayed during the evening gown segment of the pageant. Additionally, contestants
will be interviewed by a panel of judges prior to the beginning of the event.
Long-time faculty member Carlton W. Hughes will serve as master of ceremonies with
musical entertainment to be performed by Kaitlyn Skidmore who will clog and do pointe
ballet, while the reigning Miss Southeast Brooke Sampson will play the piano. At the
conclusion of the evening, Dr. W. Bruce Ayers, SKCTC president, with crown the winner
and award trophies to the first and second runner up as well as the winner of the
talent segment and to the Miss Congeniality victor.
Veria Cookie Baldwin is the director of the event, having served in that capacity
for over 20 years. She is assisted by Michael Corriston, Tom Pope, Charlotte Lockaby,
Cathie Day, Al Cornett and Chris Jones.
