    Southeast's Commit to Complete program offering challenge to students to achieve academic success

    A program originated at Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College, Commit to Complete, will work to encourage as well as challenge members of the freshman class to achieve academic success while completing an associates degree. The program is a venture of various SKCTC student organizations, Phi Theta Kappa honorary and members of the faculty. The program has been designed to lunge students toward excellence in the classroom and to instill in them pride to complete what they have set out to do, that being the attainment of a college degree.

    Program coordinator Patricia Baker explained that all too often students dont follow through with their academics. Southeast wants its students to be successful and to complete the programs in which they enroll, she said. But, it takes commitment from the students as well as a promise from the college. The Commit to Complete committee, along with the college administration, faculty and staff, will provide various services for students in their quest to become successful.

    She noted all members of the SKCTC freshman class will participate in the program beginning with the current semester and ending with the 2015 summer semester. Throughout the semesters, Ms. Baker and others will be in contact with students via mail, e-mail and on Facebook. Freshmen who agree to make a pledge to complete their degrees will be provided with various incentives and counseling over the subsequent months.

    A kick off for the program has been set for September 11 at 11 a.m. on the Cumberland campus as SKCTC President Dr. F. Lynn Moore will be the featured speaker. Additionally, a similar program will be held on the Whitesburg campus Sept. 12 also at 11 a.m., with programs slated for the Harlan and Middlesboro campuses on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 11 oclock.

    At each campus event, faculty, staff and advising personnel will be present to answer questions students may have. Refreshments will be served and prizes issued.
