Southeast students successful in HOSA Competition

Traci Ferguson and Bob Yontz captured first-place awards in extemporaneous writing in the respiratory care division and in the prepared speaking competition among respiratory care students, respectively. Additionally, Alex Parks, Scott Yeary and Justin Scalf won first place in the public service announcement contest for surgical tech students. And winning the HOSA bowl for respiratory students were Ben Roark, Kenny Ellis and William Branstutter. Others winners from Southeast include Amy Roberts, Sabrina Lawson and Jonathan Davis who won second place in the health education contest for respiratory care students. Megan Payne took home a third place award in the medical terminology division for respiratory care students.

According to SKCTC faculty member and HOSA advisor Nancy Miles, HOSA is a local, state and national organization and provides a unique program of leadership development for health science technology education students, therefore helping to meet the needs of the health care community. HOSAs mission is especially important, she noted, considering the shortage of qualified health care workers.
