Southeast Students, Staff and Community Members Perform in Georgia
Fifty-six Southeast students, staff, and community members traveled to Dahlonega, Georgia on the weekend of March 18th to perform at the Appalachian Studies Association conference at North Georgia College and State University. The group performed two hours of stories and songs from two playsHigher Ground and Playing With Firecreated in Harlan County over the past five years. One hundred and thirty people attended the performance, and afterwards the reviews were very good. In addition to the college faculty, students, artists, and community workers from across the region who attend the conference, the audience included at least fifteen former Harlan County residents living in Georgia who came to see their kinfolks and friends perform. Thanks to everyone involved, both those who went on the trip, and those who helped make it possible.
