SOUTHEAST SCHOLARSHIP GOLF CLASSIC IS AUGUST 20TH

CUMBERLAND, Ky. Local golfers will once again have the opportunity to enjoy a day of fun and competition while helping students attend Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) as they participate in the Lillian Faye Simpson Scholarship Golf Classic to be held Saturday, August 20th at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Cumberland.

The event is a four player scramble will proceeds going to the Southeast Education Foundation, which supports student scholarships. There will be two flights, with tee times starting at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Registration for each flight will be at 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Entry fee is $250 per team, which includes green fees, use of a cart, event t-shirt and lunch. Golfers will be able to compete for various special feat prizes, including a putting contest as well as a chance to win prizes for the longest drive, closest to pin shot and closest second shot on a designated hole. Additionally, a cash prize of $600 will go to the first place team with the second place team pocketing $400. The third place team will be awarded $200.

As in years past, Creech Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac of Harlan will sponsor a new car that can be won by the first participant to record a hole-in-one on the par-three hole number six on the front nine.

Tiffany B. Scott, Scholarship Golf Classic director, noted the event is a great opportunity for golfers to enjoy a day of great competition while also students here at Southeast.

Year after year, students at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College have been faced with a rising cost to their education, she said. Tuition, coupled with gas and foods costs, not to mention childcare, have placed a hardship on many students. It is no secret that in this critical time when unemployment rates are climbing to an all-time high that a college or technical degree is a requirement for landing a good paying job.

"We at Southeast are working hard to aid students and to make a difference in their lives. With that in mind, come out and spend the day with us, support a great cause and play a little golf at the beautiful Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.

This years event is being sponsored by Appalachian Regional Healthcare, the Kentucky Coal Academy and American Business Solutions-Xerox.
