    SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE DESIGNATED STORMREADY SUPPORTERS BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

    CUMBERLAND, Ky. Students, Faculty, Staff and Visitors to all campuses of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) can now feel a little more safe during severe weather, thanks to a new designation from the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

    On Friday, February 26th, 2016, Meteorologist-in-Charge Shawn B. Harley and Warning Coordination Meteorologist Tony Edwards from the National Weather Service office in Jackson, Kentucky joined SKCTC President/CEO Dr. Lynn Moore and key staff and community partners on the Cumberland campus to announce that all five college campuses are now StormReady Supporters. The Whitesburg campus was designated StormReady years ago, but the announcement adds the Cumberland, Harlan, Middlesboro and Pineville campuses to the list.

    According to the National Weather Service, StormReady, a program started in 1999 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, helps arm America's communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property, before and during a severe weather event. Officials say no community is storm proof, but StormReady can help communities and universities save lives.

    "I offer my congratulations to each campus of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College for being designated as a National Weather Service StormReady Supporter. Harley said. The college staffs commitment to ensuring each campus is properly prepared to deal with severe weather is commendable. There is no place that is storm proof, but by being StormReady, people can be prepared, and lives can be saved when severe weather strikes."

    NWS Jackson officials also reported that SKCTC is currently the only community and technical college in the state of Kentucky to have all of its campuses designated as StormReady Supporters, a fact that makes Dr. Moore extremely proud.

    Our team works very hard to make sure that everyone who visits our campuses has the best and safest experience possible. Dr. Moore said. This designation helps to drive the point home that what we are doing is working.
