
SKCTC Vice President Adams elected to national board
Dr. Vic Adams, a vice president and the chief workforce officer for Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, has been elected to serve a two-year term on the board of directors for the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE). Adams will begin his tenure July 1 and will be up for re-election in 2017. His role on the board will be to serve as a link between the membership and the panel and to assist members in promoting and implementing the concepts of career and technical education, basic skills education and workforce and economic development.Serving as a board member of NCWE is certainly an honor and privilege, said Adams. I have dedicated my career to providing workforce education to communities within the service area of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College. NCWE has long been a voice for workforce education nationally. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the organization as a member of its board of directors.
Dr. Adams, a native of Middlesboro, has almost 20 years of experience at Southeast in workforce education and community and economic development. He has served in various capacities at the college including training and development coordinator, associate dean of community and economic development, dean of community and economic development and currently vice president. He holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Kentucky and a Masters Degree from Lincoln Memorial University. He earned a Ph.D. from Mississippi State University.
The Workforce Solution Division he oversees is a multifaceted organization fully engaged in providing skilled workers to southeast Kentucky, northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. In addition, he currently serves as a member of the East Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (now WIOA) and is president of the Bell County Economic Development Foundation. Dr. Adams has also been instrumental in implementing several workforce pathway training programs at Southeast such as Accelerating Opportunity and Breaking Through.
NCWE, headquartered in Bellingham, Wa., is led by Darlene G. Miller. The mission of the organization is committed to promoting excellence and growth in workforce education.
As an affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges, NCWE provides a national forum for administrators and faculty in workforce education and basic skills, as well as representatives of business, labor, military and government, to affect and direct the future role of two-year and other post-secondary institutions in workforce education and economic development.
