    Roger Cleveland to be speaker for King Diversity Breakfast; event set for January 14 at Benham Schoolhouse Inn

    Dr. Roger Cleveland, nationally renowned for his insight in education and instructional equity, cultural competency, learning styles and an specialist on transforming school culture and school improvement planning, will be the speaker for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Diversity Breakfast slated for Saturday, Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. at the Benham School House Inn. The event is sponsored by Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College and its Office of Diversity, Student Support Services and the SKCTC Upward Bound Program.

    Dr. Cleveland is a native of Middlesboro and is known for his educational insight in areas of instructional equality, cultural competency, the closing of achievement gaps and the transformation of school culture and school improvement planning.

    He is a graduate of Morehead State and received a masters degree from Union College and gained his doctorial degree from the University of Cincinnati.

    He has worked in the Cincinnati Public Schools with the citys youth collaborative initiative, and he was the director of the Division of Federal Programs and Instructional Equality for the Kentucky Department of Education prior to joining the faculty of Morehead State. Presently, he serves as an assistant professor at Eastern Kentucky University. He is also the CEO of Millennium Learning Concepts, an educational consulting company based in Lexington.

    We are most honored to have Dr. Roger Cleveland as our keynote speaker for the annual Martin Luther King Community Breakfast, said Carolyn Sundy, event director. Dr. Cleveland is coming home to southeastern Kentucky and will provide a message that will certainly stimulate and enlighten.

    Dr. Cleveland was recently nominated for the Kentucky Human Rights Commission Hall of Fame and for the Golden Apple Award at EKU.
