Pre-admissions conferences scheduled for aspiring SKCTC nursing students

Test scores of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College allied health students taking national board exams continue to be impressive, according to college officials.

Graduates from the spring 2009 semester have excelled in their examinations and many have now entered the workforce providing quality medical care throughout the colleges service area of Harlan, Bell and Letcher counties and beyond.

Recent graduates of the colleges radiography program at the Pineville campus had a 100 percent pass rate on the national radiography board examination with 15 taking the test. The program is led by Paul Hutson.

The respiratory care program under the direction of Mike Good also enjoyed a 100 percent pass rate on the national test as a total of 16 students sat for the examination. The satellite program in respiratory care taught on the Whitesburg campus saw 14 of its 15 graduates passing the exam for 94 percent.

The career mobility nursing program (evening and weekend PR program), had all 14 of its graduates pass the national exam, while the colleges career mobility nursing program associate degree graduates also had a perfect pass rate. The program is under the direction of Milton Borntrager.

The allied health program continues to thrive, said Kathy Guyn, the division chairman for the discipline. Our students work hard to be successful, and we take great pride in our efforts as faculty to prepare them to succeed and to make our area a better place in which to live and to enjoy life.
