PLUGGEDIN-KY Program students to present class project

Students enrolled in the PLUGGEDIN-KY Program conducted by Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College will present their class project to members of the community on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. in the classroom building located on the Middlesboro campus.

Class participants will present their community project with an oral presentation and PowerPoint marking the close of the class that has been in session since March.

Plugged In-KY, according to Kathy Newman the instructor for Bell County, is a unique pilot program sponsored by Kentucky Adult Education in cooperation with Laurie Henry, a professor at the University of Kentucky.

Newman noted that nine students are enrolled and a total of seven have achieved their GED diplomas. The other two are working to acquire the GED within the next month. The students in the program have accumulated college credits from SKCTC and have received Kentucky Employability Certificates and will also receive certification from Microsoft.

Additionally, each is to be involved in a recycling program with support from local government and businesses in Bell and Harlan counties.

Southeast staff who have been involved with the program for the past seven months include Brenda Morris, the director of SKCTCs Bell and Harlan county adult education initiative; Dwayne Gibson and Bobbie Dixon, computer instructors; Kathy Newman and Kit Hensley, GED instructors.

Students in the program include: Jerilyn Baker, Brandon Barnett, Jane Brock, Myrtle Buis, Tracy Cox, Danielle Gaines, Brent Gambrell, Deborah Leatherwood and Tamara Middleton.

The public is cordially invited to attend the presentation by the class slated for the August 26.
