
Partnerships aid Southeast Kentucky Community Technical College students in completion of variety of degrees
There are many more pathways leading to a college degree than there were just a few
years ago. Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College and the Kentucky Community
and Technical College System continue to develop partnerships with state public and
private colleges as well as national institutions of higher education making it easier
to complete a Bachelors degree or professional program.
Articulation agreements and 2+2 programs guarantee the transfer of Southeast courses.
These programs take several forms, noted Joe Sutton, director of career services for
SKCTC. There are degrees taught by the transfer institution on several Southeast campuses.
These include an Organizational Leadership program offered by Lincoln Memorial University
on the Middlesboro Campus; Human Services/Counseling offered by Lindsey Wilson College
and taught on the Cumberland Campus; an Education curriculum offered by Midway College
and taught at the Whitesburg campus, and a Health Care Administration program offered
by Midway College and available on all Southeast campuses which are located at Middlesboro,
Pineville, Harlan, Cumberland and Whitesburg.
Sutton went on to disclose that there are various articulation agreements in place which allow Southeast students to complete 60 to 90 hours before transferring to the senior institution. These include Pharmacy with Appalachian School of Pharmacy; Criminal Justice and Vocational Education with Eastern Kentucky University; Business and Education with all state and most private institutions; pre-Engineering with the University of Kentucky; Accounting, Biology, Business, Education, Environmental Science, Kinesiology, pre-Medicine; Art; pre-Veterinary Science ; Broadcast Communications; Chemistry, Criminal Justice, History, Nursing and several more with Lincoln Memorial University and General Studies with both Union College and the University of the Cumberlands.
Transfer agreements(2+2) include Southeasts Associate of Arts (AA) as they readily transition to a Bachelors in Public Administration or Psychology with Kentucky State University; Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Information Technology to a Bachelors in Telecommunications Systems Management with Murray State University; AA/AS (Associate of Science)/ AAS leading to a Bachelors in Organizational Leadership with the University of Louisville; AA Communications Transfer Framework leading to a Bachelors in Communications with U of L, AAS in Criminal Justice to a Bachelors in Administration of Justice, General Occupational and Technical Studies to Bachelors in Workforce Leadership through Northern Kentucky University; and the AAS in Information Technology-Microsoft Networking to Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Technology with Western Kentucky University .
Online programs provide access to completing many degrees without having to leave the area, said Sutton. Additionally, there are online Associate Degree programs lasting in duration for two to three years. These include theAssociate in Applied Science in Business with options in Accounting, Management, Office Systems; Office Systems with options in Desktop Publishing, Financial Assistant, Medical Administration, Criminal Justice with options in Law Enforcement, Security amp; Loss Prevention, Health Information Technology, Information Technology including options in Library Information, Programming, Game Programming, Computer Support Specialist, Database Administration, Information Security, Medical Information Technology with options in Administration, Insurance Coding, Medical Records and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education.
Online programs providing access to a Bachelors Degree for SKCTC students with AA/AS degrees or targeted AAS degrees are offered by a variety of state and national colleges and universities. Available programs include: Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Nursing, Technology Management, Computer Science, Telecommunication Systems Management, Construction Management, Hospitality Management, Marketing, Logistics amp; Distribution, Human Resource Leadership, Family Studies, Sociology, Corrections amp; Juvenile Justice, Fire and Safety Engineering Technology, Allied Health Leadership, Forensic Accounting, Public Relations, e-Marketing, Biblical Studies, Communications, Supply Chain and Operations Management, Human Services Management, Education, Psychology, Software Engineering and many more, Sutton said.
