Parkway Pharmacy team is winner of scholarship golf event

The Parkway Pharmacy team from Whitesburg carded a 17-under-par score of 53 to win the 20^th annual Southeast Scholarship Golf Classic held recently at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course at Cumberland. The event, which attracted 15 foursomes to the best-ball scramble format tourney, generated approximately $3,000 for the scholarship fund at Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College.

The winning team, comprised of Junior Watts, Todd Watts, Gary Grant and Heath Brashear, won $150 each and sealed the win after a five-hole playoff with the Atkins Law Office team which finished in second place. The Atkins team consisted of Ronnie Cox, Jay Dunaway, James Deal and Ed Leisge. Each was awarded $50 for his efforts.

The golf classic, according to event coordinator and SKCTC Professor Rhonda Creech, was most successful. The event was one of the best yet, and we say thanks to all who came out to play. We also say thank you for the generosity in helping deserving students receive scholarships to attend the college.

Prior to and during the event, participants had the chance to win various special feat prizes. Mark Lowe was the winner of the putting contest while Jody Gluck recorded the longest putt. Others who won prizes included: Todd Watts, Jacob Cornett, Ed Leisge, Andrew Forester, Pete Cornett and Jon Simpson.
