Opportunities for diverse businesses the focus of special event at Southeast

Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College (SKCTC) will be hosting an event for area diverse business owners to learn more about opportunities for doing business with the college, 11:30 a.m. 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 in the Building 1 Conference Room on the Harlan campus. The event is in support of the Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems (KCTCS) supplier inclusion Initiative.

The key is opportunity, says Dr. W. Bruce Ayers, President and CEO of SKCTC. We want to provide area diverse business owners with the opportunity to easily learn about, and compete for, the goods and services that are needed here at our college, as well as at other area colleges within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Once a diverse business is registered with the Initiative they will be notified by phone and e-mail when a matching opportunity occurs. Newsletters and other communications will also keep them updated on future opportunities, Initiative related events and more. This is an ideal way to us to express our support for the diverse businesses in our community, demonstrate best-in-class supplier inclusion for educational institutions in Kentucky, and allow these businesses to learn more about what SKCTC has to offer, continues Dr. Ayers.

The overall objective of the supplier inclusion Initiative is to ensure KCTCS meets the 2010-2016 Strategic Plan goals to "reflect the diversity of the students and employees of our 16 colleges and the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The agenda includes an overview of how the Initiative works, a discussion of upcoming opportunities for goods/service needed by the college, a demonstration of the online registration process, and an open question and answer session. Purchasing agents for the college will be present. Light snacks will be provided.
