Nutcracker A Christmas Dream, holiday spectacle to return to Appalachian Center stage
Robyn Binghams Dance Academy, in conjunction with the Theater Arts Program at Southeast
Kentucky Community amp; Technical College, will present once again The Nutcracker,
A Christmas Dream slated for Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3. Shows are set
to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday with the Saturday performance to begin at 2:30 p.m.,
and will feature the show which has come to be regarded locally as a holiday tradition.
All performances will be held in the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Center located on the
Cumberland campus of SKCTC.
Ms. Bingham, who directs and choreographs the show, noted that over 40 dancers will
take part in a total of 24 dance numbers. The ballet dance troupe will showcase their
talents who are from ages three to adult.
The show centers on the character of Marie who awakens from a long winters slumber
to find a magical world of sugar plum fairies, dancing mice, toy soldiers and elegant
snow flake princesses who have come to life before the Christmas tree that adorns
her lavish home.
Music by Peter Tchaikovsky will provide the backdrop for the elegantly-staged dance
numbers, said Bingham. The cast has been hard at work for several months and looks
forward to getting the holiday season off on a very good note. We invite everyone
to attend; it will certainly prove to be a most special occasion!
Tickets will be available for purchase at the Appalachian Center Box Office, and for
further information, contact Michael Corriston, Southeast Kentucky Community amp;
Technical College, at 589-3137 or Ms. Bingham at 573-4168.
