Newman participates in Kellogg Institute event at Appalachian State University

Kathy Newman, a 15-year employee of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College and a mathematics instructor, participated recently in the Kellogg Institute seminar held on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. The seminar was funded by a Title III grant through the Developmental Education Department of Southeast.

She was one of 42 participants from two and four-year colleges. During the event, she was involved in assessment and placement, the design of learning environments, the study of academic support services and diversity and with the study of outcomes assessment and program evaluation.

At SKCTC, she works with under-prepared students aiding them in reaching their academic goals. She currently teaches pre-algebra as well as elementary and intermediate algebra and foundations of learning classes.

A native of Harlan County, she is assigned to the Middlesboro campus
