Miss Southeast 2011, an evening of pageantry

The Miss Southeast Scholarship Pageant was held Saturday evening in the Godbey Appalachian Center on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College with Megan Brooke Sampson, center, of Middlesboro, as the winner. Erica Casey Sergent, right, of Baxter, was the runner up while Amanda Caitlin Helton, of Pathfork, was first runner up.

Ms. Sampson will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southeast and will represent the college at the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival. As part of SKCTCs 50th anniversary celebration, former Miss Southeast winners were invitted to take part in the pageant. The first event was held in 1989 and returning for the 2011 event included: Kayla Messer, Misty Baker, Amy Woolum, Stacy Noah, Brooke Sergent, Carlton W. Hughes, long-time master of ceremonies for the pageant, Jenny Bisceglia, Serena Hensley, Jennifer Creech and Danielle Adams.

Contestants were judged on their poise, talent and on-stage question. Entertaining the large gathering with a modern dance routine was Carlee Elizabeth Pingleton of Pineville.
