Medical Coding Apprentice Program to be offered at SKCTC Harlan campus

The Medical Coding Apprentice Program, a one-semester program, will be offered to students at the Harlan campus of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College beginning in August.

The program, according to Judith Fields, who is in charge of the program for SKCTC, noted that participants who are successful in completing the curriculum can receive either a degree, certificate or diploma.

The program is to be taught on the Harlan campus this fall and will be taught at the SKCTC Middlesboro location during the spring 2012 semester. Class time will be from 4-9 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday. Additionally, class members will be required to take an anatomy class.

The program, now in its seventh year, prepares individuals for promising careers within the medical coding field, noted Ms. Fields. This is the first year we are offering the program on the Harlan campus, and we look forward to bringing the program to that location. We invite anyone who wishes to learn more about the program or has a desire to have a career in medical coding to get in touch with us.

The curriculum for the fall semester includes classes in medical coding and advanced coding as well as keyboarding. Also, a medical office terminology class and an introduction to medical billing class will be offered as well as an anatomy class.
