HARLAN COUNTY JUDGE EXECUTIVE DAN MOSLEY NAMED 52ND ANNUAL KINGDOM COME SWAPPIN MEETIN HONOREE

CUMBERLAND, Ky. He has had many accomplishments in his life, from banker, to Poke Sallet Festival coordinator, to Harlan County Judge Executive. On Saturday, October 1st, Dan Mosley will add one more to the growing list: Kingdom Come Swappin Meetin honoree.

My first Swappin Meetin experience was when I was a young boy, all the way back in the 2nd grade, when we would come on field trips to the festival. Said Mosley. It was something me and my friends would always look forward to. They would load us up on the bus with a sack lunch and wed spend the whole day up there.

Mosley has fond memories of the Swappin Meetin, now in its 52nd year and celebrating a merger this year with the Kentucky Black Bear Festival on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC).

I always remember if my mom could not go to the event with me, she always sent me money to bring her home a couple of jars of molasses. Said Mosley. Thats a good memory that will always stick with me.

Mr. Mosley is a Harlan County native and has lived in Appalachia his whole life. He is a Southeast graduate and also has a bachelors degree from Lincoln Memorial University. His role in helping and serving others started at an early age.

Just after graduating from SKCTC in 2005, Mosley worked at WYMT TV as the Cumberland Valley Bureau Chief for two years. He then transitioned into public service as Harlan Countys E-911 Coordinator and Special Programs Coordinator for the Fiscal Court.

In 2014, Mosley was elected to his current post as the head of the county government. At 34 years old, he is currently the youngest Judge Executive in the state of Kentucky.

Even with all of these accomplishments under his belt, Mosley says he is grateful to receive this award.

Im extremely honored and privileged to be selected as the Swappin Meetin honoree this year. Im deeply humbled. Said Mosley.

Michael Corriston, the senior coordinator for the Swappin Meetin said the tribute is well deserved.

Dan and the fiscal court have been tireless supporters of the Swappin Meetin over the years. Said Corriston. The Swappin Meetin Committee appreciates his efforts and wanted to say thank you.

Mosley will be honored in a ceremony at noon on Saturday, October 1st in the Godbey Appalachian Center theatre.
