Community Diversity Breakfast set for January 17 at Benham Inn

The ninth annual Community Diversity Breakfast celebrating the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Benham School House Inn.

Speakers for the event will be the Rev. Sandra Jones and Justin Preston of Big Stone Gap, Va.

Rev. Jones will present a narrative of the American Civil Rights Movement and provide historical information about the life and legacy of Dr. King. Following Jones presentation, Mr. Preston will present Kings legendary I Have a Dream Speech that was delivered on Aug. 28, 1963 before 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Rev. Jones pastors two churches, one in Big Stone Gap and the other in Lynch. She is also an employee of the University of Virginias College at Wise. Preston is an actor and educator.

Carolyn M. Sundy, Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College Vice President for Diversity, noted the importance of the annual celebration. We will come together on January 17th to celebrate the dynamic life of Dr. King. We invite all to come out and take part in this wonderful event and enjoy a great breakfast and experience a delightful time of fellowship, she said.

The breakfast meal will consist of orange juice, milk and coffee, scrambled eggs, sausage, cinnamon fried apples and biscuits and gravy. The price of the meal is $9.95 plus tax.
