Commencement ceremony for fall semester graduates to be held at Southeast
The annual commencement ceremony to honor fall semester graduates will be held at Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10 in the Godbey Appalachian Center, Cumberland.
Over 100 students, according to SKCTC Registrar Karin Gibson, have earned the right to receive degrees or diplomas during the service. We applaud the efforts of those who have worked so very hard to earn their degrees and diplomas, she said.
This is the third consecutive year we have had a mid-year celebration for the fall semester graduates. The event has quickly grown into a successful and well-attended event. Come join us as we celebrate these students accomplishments.
The featured speaker will be Danielle Smoot, district communications director for U.S. Congressman Harold Hal Rogers.
Ms. Smoot, a native of Leslie County, has served in her post with the congressman for the last two years. In July, she was also named the congressmans field representative for the western portion of the Fifth Congressional District. In her dual roles, Danielle is in frequent conversation with the regions leaders and numerous media outlets.
She was first introduced to Congressman Rogers during her six-year career at WYMT-TV in Hazard where she co-anchored Mountain News at Six for the CBS affiliate. She explains her career as an education in the successes and obstacles that families and businesses share across southern and eastern Kentucky.
She also noted she is passionate about the region, an area she calls home a place she loves. She greatly enjoys working with others to improve the region.
