Classical Guitarist, Michael Fogler, to perform

In an area where guitarists grow on trees; strumming bluegrass, gospel, folk, androck n' roll; and where every teenager longs to own or does own an electric guitar, we dont often have the opportunity to listen to a real, live classical guitarist. The rhythmic strains of Spanish and Latin music make our minds travel back to the origin of this beloved instrument: the shores and mountains of Spain. On October 24, beginning at 7:30 pm in the Godbey Appalachian Black Box Theatre on the campus of SKCTC, Cumberland, classical guitarist Michael Fogler will bring an entirely new dimension to the guitar sounds we most often hear in our region. A master of his instrument, Michael will present songs by Spanish composers Manuel de Falla, Enrique Granados, as well as other very famous composers.

A native of North Carolina, Michael is a graduate of Guitar Performance from the University of North Carolina; and holds a Masters Degree in the same discipline from Florida State University. While at UNC, Michael studied with David Barison, a former student of Alexander LaGoya. During summer studies at the North Carolina School for Arts, he studied with a renowned Segovia protg from Mexico, Jesus Silva. Silva had been personal friends with Segovia and the guitar composers Heitor Villa-Lobos and Manuel Ponce. Noted by this special teacher as being ..a musician of special talent and sensitivity, the Lexington Herald Leader tells us that Michael Fogler and his classical guitar playing will keep your audience enthralled.
