
Celebration of mountain heritage and culture set for July 20 on the Cumberland campus of Southeast
Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College will sponsor a festival of mountain
heritage and culture as the event promotes regional artists and artisans. The one-day
event is slated for Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the Edsel Godbey
Appalachian Center located on the Cumberland campus.
The celebration, according to Larry LaFollette, program coordinator for the Historical
Information Management Program at Southeast and the event organizer, will include
traditional mountain foods, including a free soup bean dinner to the first 250 people,
mountain music, heritage demonstrations, arts and crafts sales by area artisans, various
workshops, a farmers market, gardening demonstrations, storytelling and a writing
workshop for youth, and much more. Set for 2 p.m., will be the induction ceremony
of 2013 honorees of the National Hall of Fame for Mountain Artisans which is maintained
and managed by SKCTC.
