What are my career choices?

The Education Program here at Southeast is designed to prepare educators for employment in Kentucky classrooms. The Associate in Applied Science Degree offers two options: one for paraeducators wishing only for a two-year degree and another for those wishing to enter a university teacher education program.

The Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Education, Teacher Preparation, is an option for students who wish to begin coursework at Southeast and then apply for transfer to a teacher education program at a four-year college or university.

The Paraeducator Certificate Program is designed to prepare students to successfully complete the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment or Kentucky Department of Education approved alternative assessment. Paraeducators who wish to earn a two-year degree may complete the (AAS) Teacher Associate option, Associate in Applied Science.
Southeast, along with all KCTCS institutions, partners with Kentucky's public and private four-year universities, the Kentucky Department of Education, The council on Postsecondary Education, and the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board to guarantee the classes taken at Southeast will transfer among participating secondary, two-year and four-year institutions.

What can I do?

Graduates of the Education program may transfer into a bachelor s degree program or land jobs such as teacher aide, instructional assistant, classroom support staff, or assistant teacher. Start an exciting new career at public and private schools, early care educational settings, early intervention programs, Head Start, hospitals, campus child development centers, rehabilitation clinics and recreation centers.

Under Kentucky s 2+2 Teacher Prep Partnership, you can become a full-time teacher at your own pace. Southeast has partnerships with public and private universities and state agencies to guarantee that your credits transfer.
