SKCTC Student Care Closet

Taking Care of Students' Situational Needs

At Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, we understand your college education extends beyond the classroom. Southeast is committed to providing you a fun and complete college experience.  Besides our great organizations and student services, we also want to make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable while you are learning.  You are that important to us!  That is why we offer a student care closet on several of our campus sites.

  • Cumberland:  Academic Support Center in Chrisman Building Room 204

  • Whitesburg:  Caudill Hall (kitchen) Room 121

  • Harlan:  Academic Support Center, Building 1 in old library space

The Student Care Closet holds not only food but also essentials such as laundry detergent, binders, basic school supplies, diapers, and toiletries. Some locations have cooking utensils and towels.  A college student’s purchase of these items often take the place of a meal.

What sets us apart is that we offer casual clothing and shoes for the whole family as well as a selection of dress attire for any student who may need something fitting to wear to a job interview.

The Student Care Closet is free for students with food insecurity or for students who may have a situational need, for example, you forgot lunch money, or spilled something on your clothes--we are here for you!   Students can access the centers with a current SKCTC ID. It is completely free and its visitors are kept anonymous. Some faculty, staff, and students like to donate, so we always say, give if you can, and take what you need.

Donations for Student Care Closet should be non-perishable food items. Those interested in donating to the closet should contact:
