Dr. Rick Mason                                                   Denise Haynes – Recorder

Dr. Lambert opened the meeting to discuss the importance of unity within the committee and of assuring that the QEP collaboration includes all stakeholders. He wants the QEP process to be open and transparent for everyone. The inclusion of faculty, staff, and students is vital. Dr. Lambert believes the committee will be successful in their joint effort to come to a unanimous agreement in their choice of a QEP topic. He then turned the meeting over to Dr. Holbrook and Dr. Mason.

Topic Selection Survey – The recent survey was sent by Dr. Mason through the SKCTC website, and the college’s social media page, students were also included to participate, through Blackboard. Overall, there was a good response to the survey with 140 participants. The following is a summary of the results in the order of favorite choice by constituents:

  1. Digital Literacy
  2. Career Development
  3. Information Literacy
  4. Basic Computer Skills
  5. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  6. KCTCS Essential Skills (KES)
  7. Post-Covid Digital Classroom Skills

Below are additional topics with the number of times each was shown interest, in parenthesis. Some of these options overlap with current topics being explored:

  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining full-time faculty. (1)
  • Improving student reading comprehension. (2)
  • Academic integrity to include AI. (2)
  • Effective communication and transparency between administration, faculty, and staff. (1)
  • Revamping FYE 105. (1)
  • Digital tools in the humanities. (1)
  • Help with online classes and digital learning platforms. (2)
  • Improving college climate. (1)
  • Employees follow through. (1)
  • Onsite mental health counseling. (1)
  • Money management skills. (1)

Next Survey – It was decided that Sophomore students from selected courses will be the focus for additional student input. The outcome of this census will be provided by the end of May.

Utilizing FYE 105 was mentioned as a viable option to reinforce advising tools such as, PeopleSoft, visual schedule builder, and starfish, as in the last QEP.

Digital Literacy/Digital Fluency remains a strong option for a QEP topic that would also include AI.

Next Step – Out of the seven top choices each committee member was asked to submit their five choices ranked from first to last. The committee will meet one more time, at the end of May, to decide on the final five topics. These five will be presented to the faculty upon their return in August.

The committee will convene again at the end of May. With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
