Over the past several months, longtime Southeast employees Travis Cox and Jill Creech have stepped into new roles as campus directors for Harlan and Cumberland. They’ve already made strides in strengthening student success and building community partnerships. Today, we’re excited to spotlight their leadership and vision for Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College.

Travis Cox officially began his role as Harlan campus director on July 1, 2025, while continuing to serve as director of adult education. Cox started working for SKCTC in 1999 as a math tutor in adult education, became a full-time employee in 2005, and assumed leadership as adult education director in 2013.

He earned his bachelor of science in education from Union College in 2003, specializing in social studies for grades 7–12. He later completed graduate studies at Union College, earning a master’s degree in education administration and reading specialist certification.

His priorities for the Harlan campus include student success and achievement, campus culture and well-being, and community and family partnerships. Cox said SKCTC is special to him because it’s a great place to work with supportive, dedicated colleagues who truly care about making a difference.

“Seeing our students grow and succeed is what makes every effort worthwhile,” he said. “I’m excited to lead the Harlan campus because it feels like home and it’s deeply personal to me to see it grow and thrive. The amazing people who work here inspire me every day to keep moving our campus forward.”

Jill Creech assumed the role of Cumberland campus director on October 1, 2025, while also stepping into the position of executive assistant to the president after serving as workforce solutions program administrator. Creech began her college journey at Southeast, earning her associate degree before continuing her education with Lindsey Wilson University at the Cumberland campus, where she is nearing completion of her bachelor’s degree and plans to pursue a master’s, all while remaining an integral part of the Southeast community.

Her priorities include engaging students, building community partnerships, and enhancing campus resources to support student success. Creech said Southeast has always been a staple of her community and a place that is deeply personal to her.

“I’ve seen firsthand how it changes lives — not only by providing educational opportunities but also by creating a sense of belonging and hope,” she said. “I’m excited to lead my campus because Southeast has given me a sense of belonging, lifelong friendships, and experiences that have shaped who I am today. I want to give back so every student feels just as supported and inspired as I have over the years.”

Creech can be reached at 606.589.3042 or jill.creech@kctcs.edu.
