Southeast celebrates 65th anniversary with Giving Day, April 16
Published on Apr 15, 2025
Kicking off its 65th anniversary with purpose, Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College will participate in Giving Day on Wednesday, April 16—a 24-hour campaign focused on raising funds to support student success and essential needs.
The event, held during Community College Month, highlights the importance of services such as food pantries, scholarships, emergency aid, and other student support initiatives. Contributions made through the campaign may be designated specifically to Southeast and directed to funds such as the Student Emergency Fund, Equipment and Technology, Southeast Scholars, or other college priorities.
College officials say this year’s milestone makes the campaign especially meaningful.
"This is a chance to honor our history while investing in our students’ future," said Tiffany Hampton, SKCTC development officer. "Even a small gift can make a real difference—helping a student stay in school, cover an unexpected cost, or feel supported by their community."
To mark the college’s 65th year, Southeast is encouraging 65 percent employee participation. Several incentives and donor challenges are planned throughout the day, including:
- A commemorative mug for the first 10 donors of $20 or more by 10 a.m.
- A $10 Starbucks gift card for the first 10 donors of $25 or more between 10 and 11 a.m.
- A $200 gift from Lige Buell, Cumberland campus director, if 20 faculty or staff give by 4 p.m.
- A $650 Cabinet contribution when Southeast reaches 65 donors
- A Southeast swag bag for the 65th donor
- A $1,000 matching gift for all donations made to the Southeast Scholars Fund
- A $1,500 gift from the Southeast Board of Directors and Foundation Board if all other goals are met
According to a 2023 KCTCS student survey, 58 percent of respondents expressed concern about affording college, and 48 percent reported experiencing food or housing insecurity.
Supporters can give online at kctcsgivingday.com/pages/southeast-ky through April 16. Donors may select the Southeast campus and choose a specific fund to support.
Updates and announcements will be shared throughout the day on the college’s Facebook page at facebook.com/Southeast.Kentucky. Posts will also include the hashtag #SKCTCGivingDay.
