Local officials, business leaders and state agencies will speak at the grand reopening of the Southeast HUB on Tuesday, July 30, from 1-3 p.m. on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College.

Funded by an INSPIRE grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Southeast HUB provides training and workspace to enhance Southeast Kentucky’s workforce. The newly renovated space in the lower level of Godbey Appalachian Center includes a large conference room, coworker space with modern cubicles, and a meeting and training room, all described as a “digital literacy hub.”

“This marks a new chapter in supporting the community’s growth and development,” said Sherri Clark, dean of Workforce Solutions. “Our goal is to close the workforce gap of digital equity and provide training and skills to allow individuals a second chance in career mobility.”

The program targets populations in recovery and focuses on high demand workforce sectors, including healthcare, adult peer support specialist, cybersecurity and industrial maintenance. The space is also available for local businesses to utilize.

The July 30 event is open to the public and local businesses are encouraged to attend for an opportunity to tour the facility, learn about the resources available and enjoy refreshments.

Special guests will include Harlan County Judge-Executive Dan Mosley; Brandi Honn and Ryan Bowman from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Foundation; Jimmie E. Wilson, director of Recovery/Reentry Services at EKCEP; and Alma Taylor, Cumberland Hope Center Phase 2 coordinator.
