Southeast to Hold Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ in New Format
Cumberland, KY – Each fall, the people of Southeastern Kentucky look forward to traditional festivals where they can gather and celebrate their Appalachian heritage. This year, our “new normal” has changed the format, but not the festival. The first virtual Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ will be held September 28-October 4, 2020.
According to event coordinator Alexia Ault, this year’s festival will span one week rather than the usual two days. Each day will feature at least one contest or event, and this year’s festival will feature many events targeted towards students who are working remotely or being homeschooled due to COVID-19. The festival will also include two story hour events hosted by the Harlan County Public Library.
Ault said that the Swappin’ Meetin’ committee continues to explore ways to create a virtual vendor space but that all contests and events will be shared through the Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ and Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College Facebook pages. Daily events will be shared starting at 9:00 am and all awards will be announced at 6:00 pm daily.
All contest entries should be submitted to kingdomcomeswappinmeetin@gmail.com no later than September 20 at 6:00 p.m. All interested vendors and past demonstrators should contact the committee at that email address, also. Those who would like more information on individual contests should visit the Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ Facebook pages.
