SKCTC Golf Classic a Success
Published on Aug 30, 2017
Cumberland, Ky. – Despite last weekend’s scorching temperatures, local golfers teed off to help students attend college. Over a dozen teams took part in the Lillian Faye Simpson Scholarship Golf Classic, held by Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College (SKCTC), on Saturday, August 19, at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Cumberland.
The event raised more than $12,000 and featured 14 four-player teams. Proceeds benefit
the Southeast Education Foundation which supports student scholarships. Appalachian Regional Healthcare and the Kentucky Coal Academy served as corporate sponsors for this year’s tournament. American Business Systems, Inc. was a gold sponsor.
The first place winning team was Harlan County Farm Bureau: Connor Leisge, Fred Dixon, Andrew Forester, and Garrett Bradley. Ronnie Cox Law Office—Ronnie Cox, Jay Dunaway, Travis Blair, and Jody Gilliam—took home second and third place prizes. Denny Turner and Eli Estep, respectively, won the first and second flight putting contests. Estep also won the longest drive. Joel Michaelis won closest to the pin, and Jay Dunaway won closest second shot.
“The true winners were our students,” says SKCTC President Vic Adams. “We are grateful to our sponsors and to all the teams who participated in this worthwhile event.”
