Miss Southeast Pageant to be held at Letcher Central Feb. 7

Contestants are being sought to compete in the 2015 Miss Southeast Scholarship Pageant to be held Saturday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Letcher County Central High School, Whitesburg.

Deborah Young, pageant coordinator and the director of the SKCTC Whitesburg campus, noted a first for the pageant as it is being held at a location other than Cumberland.

We are excited the Miss Southeast Scholarship Pageant is coming to Whitesburg, she said. The event, over the years, has become very successful and well attended. We certainly look forward to an evening of beauty, pageantry, style and first-rate entertainment. We invite everyone to come join us for what will be a wonderful time!

Southeast female students who are enrolled full time and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better are invited to compete for the coveted title. The winner, according to Young, will receive a tuition scholarship for one semester and valued at $1,000. The winner will represent the college at the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival to be held Memorial Day weekend at Pine Mountain State and Resort Park at Pineville.

Contestants will be judged on their poise, talent, interview, on-stage answer to a question and evening gown appearance. Southeast Professor Carlton W. Hughes will serve as master of ceremonies. The winner will be crowned by Dr. Lynn Moore, president of the college.

Awards will be issued to the winner, runner up, first runner up, talent winner and Miss Congeniality.

Applications are available at any of the SKCTC admissions offices located at the campuses in Whitesburg, Cumberland, Harlan, Pineville and Middlesboro.
