Beginning with the fall 2011 semester, a Medical Assisting Program will be offered to students attending the Whitesburg campus of Southeast Kentucky Community amp; Technical College.
The three-semester curriculum leads to a diploma upon which time graduates will be qualified to work in clinics and physicians offices performing a variety of tasks that includes the drawing of blood, taking vital signs, giving injections and administering EKGs in addition to performing a variety of administrative duties dealing with insurance, billing and coding procedures.
According to Leann Turner, an assistant professor at Southeast and a 14-year veteran of teaching at the colleges Harlan campus, the Medical Assisting Program, slated for the Whitesburg campus, will be taught in three phases that includes: clinical, laboratory and administrative.

We are excited about bringing Medical Assisting to Whitesburg.
