Hayden Prater will apply the Reach award he received through the KFC Foundation towards his studies at UK.At 17, Bell County High School student Joshua Hayden Prater has had to grow up fast. Like thousands of local high school students, he has taken advantage of the dual credit opportunities at Southeast. Unlike most of them, he has done so despite being homeless.

Southeast’s Workforce Solutions delivers training to companies like Smart Wood using the Success Xpress, a mobile training unit that provides electrical and hydraulics on site.Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College has recently formed a new industry partnership, one that reaches consumers of all ages. The Smart Wood plant in Corbin, Kentucky, produces what for many is a basic summertime necessity: popsicle sticks.

Representatives from Southeast, ARC, and the USDA meet to discuss the grant award: From L: Cumberland Campus Director Lige Buell; USDA representatives Jeff Jones, Cheryl Clay, and Mark Mason; Southeast President Vic Adams; Southeast VP of Student Affairs Rebecca Parrott; Southeast VP of Academic Affairs Joel Michaelis; Southeast VP of Advancement Michelle Dykes-Anderson: and Southeast grant writer Carrie Billett.Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) has been awarded $750,000 from the USDA's Rural Business Development program and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). This funding will allow the college to renovate the Chrisman Building on its Cumberland Campus to house programming in advanced manufacturing.

Southeast clinical instructor and former coal miner Shawn Rigney (center) enjoys sharing his knowledge with respiratory care students like Angela Mills and Dillan Napier.On March 31, 2015, fourth-generation coal miner Shawn Rigney found himself at a crossroads. For 11 years, he had worked for a local surface mining company, first as a loader and dozer operator, and eventually as a safety director. When the company went bankrupt, operations continued until the company was able to find a buyer, but on February 13, the company suffered a substantial layoff.

Meeting each Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m., the choir alternates rehearsals between the Harlan Episcopal Church, in Harlan, Ky. and the choir room of Southeast's Cumberland Campus. All singers who enjoy choir participation are invited to join.
