Area Health Education Center (AHEC)

Southeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is one of eight Kentucky AHEC’s serving a sixteen county region in southeastern Kentucky.  The primary mission of Southeast Kentucky AHEC is to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, by improving the supply and distribution of health care professionals through community/academic partnerships.  In order to achieve this, we make available a wide variety of clinical training opportunities for medical, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and other allied health students in area hospitals, clinics, private practices, and other clinical settings.  In addition to the clinical rotations, our organization prides itself on developing student’s interests of the various health careers at an early age through classroom programming, summer camps, and after-school clubs.  In an effort to fully serve our health career’s pipeline, we operate a full-service medical library located within the Hazard ARH Medical Center in Hazard and provide regional continuing education for a wide variety of healthcare providers

Southeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is located in the heart of Appalachian Kentucky, an area that is rich in scenic beauty and cultural traditions.  The central office of the Southeast Kentucky AHEC is located in Hazard, Kentucky.  Satellite offices are located at McDowell ARH in McDowell, Lee County Vocational School in Beattyville, and Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College in Cumberland.  The counties served by the Southeast Kentucky AHEC include Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe.
